Margaritas: The Classic Everyone Should Know How to Make

No matter the occasion these margaritas are sure to be a hit. Whether it’s girls’ night, Cinco de Mayo or just another fun margarita Monday these tasty cocktails will hit the spot!

Made with good quality tequila and fresh limes these margaritas are both strong and refreshing.

I cannot stress this enough PUT DOWN THE SWEET AND SOUR MIX! These premade mixes are full of sugar and artificial ingredients.

Your margaritas should not be a yellowish green, they should be a nice frothy white. A real margarita is meant to be a tart, bold cocktail not sweet and syrupy.

These are commonly known as a ‘skinny margaritas’ so if you go to a bar tell your bartender that’s what you want. Instead of trying to explain that you want a margarita without sweet and sour, just order a skinny margarita. If you have a halfway decent bartender they’ll know exactly what you want.

Plus this saves you from the “that’s not going to taste like a margarita” and the “what the f**k are you talking about” look that I’ve received countless times. Then they try to make me feel like I’m the weirdo for not wanting my drink to taste like sweet and sour. I just don’t understand that.

Does it matter what brand of tequila I use?

I’m sure i have the unpopular opinion here but I don’t think the brand matters as much in a cocktail as much it does drinking it straight.

I recommend using a medium to high quality brand of tequila but your favorite one will do the trick!

Remember it’s all about personal preference here

What if I don’t want to add soda?

The grapefruit soda in the recipe is just an added extra. A classic margarita has no soda of any kind in it.

However if you’re not a huge fan of the traditional tart cocktail, this balances it out slightly without adding the artificial flavor of premade mixes.

Do I have to shake it?

Technically no, you don’t have to, but it makes all the difference in my opinion. I think it’s well worth the extra step and freezing cold hands. The only time I don’t shake it is if I’m exhausted or if I’m blending it.

How do I make a flavored version?

This recipie works very well for making flavored margaritas.

If you’re blending, just add the type of fruit you want (preferably frozen) and blend all ingredients together.

If you’re shaking, add the fresh fruit to the shaker first and muddle with the lime juice. Add remaining ingredients and shake until frosty.
