Massage Bars: A Quick and Easy Organic Recipe

Picture this: It’s Valentine’s Day morning and you’ve been too busy with work all week to realize what day it is. You completely spaced finding a gift for your loved one in time and you know they didn’t make the same mistake. So what do you do? You whip out one of your homemade massage bars and give them the rub down they deserve.

With this recipe you can both be confident about what you’re putting into you skin.

These massage bars melt into your skin and make you buttery soft. I don’t even bother with traditional lotions anymore, especially for a massage. They don’t even come close to comparing to these bars.

Ever since stumbled upon this idea years ago during one of my late-night web browsing marathons and always thought back to ‘lotion bars’. I’ve wanted to make my own since and finally gave it a shot. I think it was well worth the effort.

I make these massage bars with only a few natural ingredients with no added preservatives and they do soo much for my skin. Plus, you can make them in whatever scent you want.

beeswax: a main component in massage bars

Why is coconut oil in everything?

It seems like the health benefits of coconut oil are endless. From cooking to hair care products, there’s no end to what coconut oil has to offer.

This oil is ultra nourishing while also being lightweight. Eventhough it is lighter than other oils, it’s not recommended for heavy use on people with acne prone or oily skin.

Coconut oil is a relatively high comedogenic ingredient, meaning it will clog pores easily. But it also has antimicrobial properties to help protect your skin from harmful bacteria.

I’m sure you’ve heard about the benefits of oil pulling with coconut oil to improve oral health. The jury is still out on how much that actually helps, but I’ve been oil pulling for a couple weeks now and I’m seeing some improvements with my gum health. Yay!

Benefits of beeswax

This ingredient won’t clog your pores, so forget it acne, we’ve found a moisturizer that even you can’t have a problem with. Due to it’s anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used on dry, cracked skin to help the healing process along.

Beeswax is also a natural source of vitamin A, which helps lessen wrinkles and fine lines. This is starting to sounds like a miracle skin protectant to me.

What is shea butter?

Simply put, it’s a fat sourced from the nut of the African Shea Tree. This is a pretty versatile butter that can be used in many different ways

You can cook with it like you would regular butter or you can use it in homemade beauty products such as body butters, lotions, massage bars, chapsticks, conditioners, hair masks and so much more.

Be mindful, this is a relatively heavy ingredient and has the ability to clog pores, unlike beeswax. I find combining these ingredients balances out its weight nicely.

Organic Massage Bars Recipe

Cute poo shaped homemade massage bars.
Things You’ll Need:

Double Boiler (I prefer the Pyrex measuring cup)

Silicon Molds

A Silicon Mini Spatula

Ingredients:

Equal parts (1/4C) – Organic Beeswax

Organic Unrefined Shea Butter

Organic Coconut Oil

30 Drops Essentil Oils

Directions:
  1. Melt beeswax, coconut oil and shea butter in a double boiler. I found using a Pyrex measuring cup in a pot of water works the best (it makes for easy mold pouring without the product cooling too quickly) Add your essential oil blend and mix.
  2. Pour into molds and let harden completely.
  3. Massage into your skin to keep it hydrated and nourished.

Play around with different scent combos. My favorite is lavender and rosemary.
